Why Resistance Strength Exercises?

Recent research has shown that progressive resistance training is one of the most effective ways to decrease your risk of falls, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.

Approximately 33% of people over the age of 65 will have a fall each year. Resistance-based exercise has been shown to reduce the incidence of falls by 13% to 40% if performed at least 2-3 times per week (Gillespie et al, 2012).

This class will challenge your strength, balance and control whilst giving you a functional workout in a friendly environment. Not only will you strengthen your muscles, but you will increase your endurance, reaction times and muscle tone.

Resistance training has also been shown to reduce the severity of symptoms of conditions including Arthritis, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

What do the classes involve?

The circuit strength classes are approximately 35mins in duration. The circuit consists of 8 exercise stations, with 1 minute at each station. Every 4 weeks there will be a new set of exercises.

There is an 8-participant maximum per class.

Time and Cost?

There are 10 classes per week at start times ranging from 8:40am to 11am. Classes can be pre-paid in packs of 10 for a cost of $190 ($19/class) or a single casual class is $22.

New Patients Please Note

If you are new to the clinic, you will require a 40-minute Initial Assessment with a physiotherapist so we can go over your medical and injury history and assess your current strength and balance levels. You will then have a 20-minute reassessment every 12 weeks to ensure your strength and balance is improving.
